Grey house during the winter snow

Do people buy houses in winter? Of course, they do. In fact, many experts say that it might be one of the better seasons to sell. When there are fewer houses on the market, your house will get more attention. So what are you going to do with all of that attention your home will be getting? We’ve got some tips to make sure your home is winter-ready when you go to put the for-sale sign up.

1. Take care of the basics.

Winter home buyers are going to pay close attention to winter issues. Make sure your HVAC and filters get a tune-up so that your home is nice and cozy. Be sure to have your gutters cleaned out so debris from snow and ice storms hasn’t built up. Be sure your sidewalks and stairs stay clear of snow and ice.

2. Make it bright!

A dreary, cold day can lend itself to making your home look darker than it really is. Brighten the inside of your home with splashes of color. Return the walls to a neutral tone of paint. Use curtains, pillows, throw blankets and decorations to add bright colors like yellows, oranges, and reds.

3. Get rid of the clutter.

It’s time to organize and declutter. Make sure that you’ve got a good storage system for things like winter clothes, hats, coats, sleds, and boots. Store, donate or toss all of the excess toys. Be sure to take down holiday decorations promptly.
